Noise and Acoustics

At Xi our team of acoustic specialists are trained in giving sound advice on noise related issues our clients are facing. We put high value on understanding our client’s needs and concerns. We have extensive experience in liaising with Local Authorities and developers on planning, EIA, implementation and installation of sound Insulating measures in accordance with the Noise Insulation Regulations, Part 1 claims under the Land Compensation Act, construction noise, windfarms, schools, hospitals and offices to name but a few. We also provide advice on mitigation solutions and can provide advice on acoustic specification for compliance with Local Authority or other requirements. Our advice will make reference to various standards and codes of practice which may include BS8233, BB93, BS4142, PPG24,CRTN, CRN, DMRB, Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and more.

The first stage of tackling a noise is to establish its precise nature, attributes, and how it came into being. Through measurement with appropriate transducers these characteristics can be defined allowing the issues to be targeted directly.

Tackling noise without first characterising the noise can be a hit or miss case of trial and error. Is it best to tackle the noise at source? Or is it best to isolate parts of the system? Can mass be added and if so to where? Will introducing stiffening reduce or increase the noise? Xi can efficiently resolve these questions providing a clear path to noise mitigation and solutions.

Noise At Work

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations Act 2005 requires employers to safe gaurd their employees exposure to noise.  Xi's specialist noise at work engineering team can assist in measurement, and assessments, providing action plans and solutions where needed.

Acoustic Camera

An acoustic camera is a device which allows sound sources to be visually represented. A camera is combined with several microphones to create a video highlighting the noise intensity of the subject which is being measured. The results can prove valuable in the identification of sound leakage and can provide insight into the best course of treatment for sound issues.

Building Acoustics

When designing, constructing, or refitting buildings it is important to consider the acoustics of the spaces.  Xi's acoustic team can help design spaces and undertake measurement to quantify noise characteristics such as attenuation and revereberation for council planning requirements.

Construction Site Noise

Before and during construction work its important to plan and measure the impact of noise.  Xi's specialist engineering team can provide baseline, long and short term acoustic measurements as well as predective acoustic mapping.  Call us to see how we can help or find out more about noise mapping and noise measurement.
