The levels of noise pollution that surround us can produce a negative impact on our health. A common source of such pollution in environments like cities or highways is that of the transportation industry. Cars, buses, and trains all produce an acoustic footprint that needs to be monitored, studied and potentially controlled.

Xi Engineering Consultants can provide different services related to this industry. From monitoring the noise produced by an engine, to the environmental impact produced by a busy road, our team of engineers have years of experience in the field and therefore can tackle any noise related problem.

At Xi, we take every measurement very seriously. Hence, we make use of the best equipment in the market to make sure all our data has a high level of accuracy. This equipment includes class A sound level meters that allow us to take spot measurements and conduct longer term monitoring surveys. Other measurement equipment includes more sophisticated instruments like acoustic camera: this state-of-the-art instrument allows you to visualise the sound emitted by an acoustical source. Acoustic cameras are therefore incredibly useful when localizing noise related issues such as noise leakage from an engine or the noise emitted by a resonant railway line.

In addition to the above measurement capabilities, Xi Engineering can also develop acoustic models. Xi us COMSOL Multiphysics to model acoustic environments, such as train interiors, using finite element methods.  COMSOL Multiphysics can also be used to model exterior environments using boundary element method.  Xi use NoiseMap to model the environmental noise related to transportation networks.  Xi also model underwater noise propagation from surface vessels and submarines using Matlab.
